Duets are graded in four volumes, both parts of equal difficulty. Volume III uses half through 4th positions, music is rhythmically more challenging, more bow strokes are introduced, and ornamentation is added. We usually stock this book for Two Violins and Two Violas which matches the cello book, so you can play duets and either instruments can play the upper or lower lines. A piano accompaniment book for this volume is available for purchase.
From 44 Duos for 2 Violins arranged for 2 violoncelli by Walter Kurz. At first blush the pieces appear deceptively simple. Most of the duets can be played with a working knowledge of first and second positions. However, phrasing, dynamic markings, changes in time signature, and complex rhythms quickly reveal much more intricate music happening here. While parts appear evenly matched, it will be helpful to play with a more advanced partner. Newer students will have questions. Highly recommended because of the broad scope of skills required and, after all, it is Bartok! The 18 pieces are short, absolutely loaded with material.
Includes 55 short pieces playable in first position. Pieces increase in difficulty rhythmically, starting with half and whole notes and gradually introducing eighth notes and dotted quarters. None of the pieces have more than two sharps or flats. A piano part may be ordered separately.
