Cellos

Our changing inventory includes new and previously-owned cellos.  Sound and characteristics of an instrument reveal themselves as each player brings their own skill set to the cello, and what each person perceives and prefers can vary.  Thus we do not attempt to describe the sound of an instrument when it can change with player, bow, strings - elements we explore with you here.

Cellos vary in body style and dimensions, so if you have trouble playing comfortably, or in tune, we should discuss this.  Pricing can vary on the same model cello due to differences in setup.  Some cellos are one-of-a-kind while others are routinely ordered, but may not always be in stock or on the site.  Contact us -- it's the best way to get current information.   Price range typically from $1700-$30,000.

Scott Cao 017E 7/8

This model is made of European wood, and set up here at Cellos2Go.  PegHeds have been installed, the bridge is French with Larsen AD and Flexocore silver-tungsten CG strings.  The Akusticus tailpiece has integrated fine tuners but you shouldn't need them since you have PegHeds.  New Harmony composite fitting accommodates an 8mm carbon fiber endpin, but if you prefer one of the 8mm alloy tuned endpins instead, you can update for the cost differential.  If you are moving from a 3/4, or downsizing from a 4/4, there are some considerations other than these dimensions.  Contact us for a fuller explanation based on you.

Scott Cao 750E Artistic Series

The model 750E is a special cello for several reasons, one of which is the number of patterns available.  Not all 4/4 cellos have the same back or string length, width and depth.  It is akin to trying on clothes and shoes where not every item has the same contours and cuts, thus some fit and others don't.  We have sold out of all the models and have more on back order, and they are starting to trickle in over the next few weeks.  But if you have a new cello in your future, keep us in mind.  Models include Guadagnini, which may be an option for those considering a 7/8 for comfort reasons but find this short-pattern cello works fabulously.  A 7/8 Strad is also available.  If you want a robust-bodied Montagnana or Rocca, those patterns are also options.   So are some others, which we will picture below.  Pricing isn't a function of which pattern, but how it is set up.  View some of these options our cellists have recently purchased.  (1) Guadagnini (2) Montagnana (3) Rocca (4) Gore Booth.  Cellos are made of European tonewoods, set up here with Pegheds, and a variety of quality parts and strings.

We have a few of these on order, but only one we just set up that's ready to go.  This small pattern 4/4 cello is popular with cellists preferring a shorter string length, or who may be contemplating a 7/8.  Most people do not understand or appreciate the specific differences between them, and we're happy to explain it to you.  Keep in mind not all 7/8 have the same dimensions or body style!  This one is set up with Pegheds, NHM endpin fitting for a 10mm endpin, French bridge, Versum Soloist with Perpetual Edition DGC  for clarity of tone and projection.
