Leather mute weighs ~6.6 grams and will fit on most bridges.  It has a slot and notch design that allows two different placements for muting effects.  Over the bridge for pianissimo, and pressing below the bridge for mezzo piano.  You can also customize the mute by moistening the notches, and as it dries on your strings it conforms to them.   When not in use, the two notches in the mute hold it in place on the afterlength.

    This hybrid metal mute by Artino weighs ~110g, and its wide, straight style may not ideal if your bridge is more contoured,  Belgian v. French, width and thickness all contribute to fit.  However, the two screws at the top can be loosened slightly to allow the mute to sit further down on the bridge, as pictured in the gallery.

    The Tourte 2-hole rubber mute can stay on the instrument when not in uses. You can quickly slide it up and on  the bridge as needed.  This is not a practice mute, but is used when playing music noted “con sordino.”  It can be used along with a wolf suppressor and does not need to be centered on the D-G strings, just two adjacent strings.

  • Ultra Rubber Practice Mute

    The rubber mute is the most forgiving and therefore the most universal in terms of it fitting safely on thick or thin bridges. Weight approximately 66 grams.  Fits 4/4 and 7/8th cellos, but depending on bridge diameter and string spacing.  It is not a good fit for small size cellos.
