Duration ~ 5 minutes.  Based upon historic events involving enslaved Africans on board La Amistad, whost historic case reached the US Supreme Court in 1841 and resulted in Cinque’s acquittal.  The opening cello solo is inspired by communication on the ship (chant and knocking on wood), followed by a celebratory lyrical section.
