Bach, JS – Suites for Violoncello Solo BWV 1007-1012
This is not a Casals edition, but rather one edited by students and disciplies of Casals. Marie Roemaet Rosanoff and Lieff Rosanoff feel they offer a representation of Casals’ teachings, and his tradition of performance as they remained in personal and artistic contact with Casals. Suite 5 does not use the original tuning (scordatura) but normal tuning.

Matz Lights and Shadows for solo cello
A suite for solo cello includes 8 short movements: Intrada, Cantabile, Minuetto I and II, Siciliano, Pizzicato, Toccatina, and Finale Giocoso. Movements are of uneven difficulty, some staying in first position while others require fluence through 4th. Another good grow-witih-me selection.

Matz 21 Duets for Young Cellists (2 cellos)
The duets progress in difficulty, with parts being equal. Duet 1 is primarily half notes in 1st position, a few moving quarter notes. By Duet No. 7 eighth notes are incorporated, mixing of pizzicato with arco, and some double stops. By the end of the book there are dotted rhythms, some syncopation, always in the 1st position. Written in score form, both parts on the same page.
