Kaplans are identifiable by the white thread with black spiral at the ball end. The winding at the peg end is color coded for pitch, and tension. Heavy tension has a secondary orange band. The G and C strings are tungsten wound and have a stranded steel core designed to give richer sound.

They share a similar power to Spirocore G and C, but with a more refined sound. They provide a similar ease of play to Rondo, but with added openness, sound color, and yet a more focused sound.
They strike a balance between Rondo and Versum Solo, offering the versatility of Versum Solo without requiring as much effort from the player.
